PAINTING THE "GODZILLA MURAL" SKETCH

We call the next Novatek mural project the "Godzilla Mural", because it will be monsterously gigantic. This gargantuan project requires a big concept sketch. I had my brother's business (Krieger-Ricks FrameMakers) build 5 masonite panels framed in the back with 1x2's and seal all the cracks, seams and counter-sunk screws with automotive bondo. I then primed each panel with acrylic gesso to have a good working surface. When the sketch is finished, I will paint the edge of each 2 inch thick panel with an umber color for presentation. This fall, my fine artwork, along with the sketches from Novatek will hang in scheduled my one man show at the Springville Museum, September 20011. When hung, the 5 panels of the "Godzilla Sketch" will hang on the wall about 2-3 inches apart. Four panels are 22 inches by 33 inches, with the center panel measuring at 22 inches by 68 inches. The whole murals sketch will hang on a wall at 22 inches by 200 inches, not counting the spaces in between each panel.

I began the sketch in artist acrylics as an underpainting. Now I've switched to artist oils. Hopefully, after just a few more days, the sketch will be finished and ready for approval. Luckily, Novatek is less than a mile away from my new studio space. When I show the sketch, I plan to set it up in the space where the mural will be painted (see the first JPEG above.).
