Creating Sketch For New Mural Concept
Yesterday afternoon, I took the time away from the MC Print Mural to begin the new concept for the Godzilla Mural Project. A few weeks ago, I sat on top of the utility camper shell of my Mazda B-3000 pick up with my brand new camera, waiting for the light to get just right. There is a lookout next to the Community of Christ church and just west of the west-curving section of University Parkway in Orem, Utah. Here I sat on top of my truck with a wide panoramic view of Utah's Wasatch range from Timpanogos to Mount Nebo. It brought back memories when I set up in about the same spot during the late summer of 2001. I was then taking pictures to be used as reference for my first Novatek mural of Rock Canyon. I remember that particular photo session as being a real challenge. A fire had just started on a section of mountains just south of Rock Canyon. It was the section above Evans Paving. Two youngsters were shooting their guns at a old power pole transformer, which sparked the fire. My wife Karen is friends with Terry Evans, the wife of Jamie Evans --- owner of Evans Paving. Later that evening, we sat with Terry on the front porch of Evans home watching the natural fireworks show late into the night. Terry was not able to reach her husband until quite late. Jamie was on the mountain chasing down the two arsonists and bringing them to safety. In spite of the smoke filled reference material, we shortly after successfully created our first mural for Novatek which spanned eighteen feet by one hundred and twenty feet. The Godzilla Project will be nearly twice that length, measuring twenty-two feet high by two hundred feet long. The subject will include the mountain ranges from Timpanogos to the left to Rock Canyon to the right. It will be a fun five to six month project.
